In memoriam - Passing away of Dr. Gaetano Donà

  • With deep sadness, Donà Viscardini announces that Dr. Gaetano Donà passed away on Monday 15 November.
  • Dr. Donà had been assisting our Law Firm since 1975 as "of counsel" for the relations with the European Union institutions – due to his prestigious experience in this field.
  • From 1959 to 1973, he had been a senior official at the Secretariat General of the Commission of the European Communities, holding the position of Head of the Division "Meetings of members of the European Commission and of heads of Cabinet". In that capacity, he had the great privilege of working closely, under the authority of Secretary General Emile Noël, with five Presidents of the European Commission.
  • From 1995 to 2014, he was a lecturer on the "European Integration" course at the University of Ferrara. At the same time, from 1996 to 2001, he was a member of the “GroupEuro", a network of lecturers on Economic and Monetary Union appointed by the European Commission
  • A convinced supporter and actor of the European Community project, he was also the creator of pioneering legal initiatives. One of the most famous of these was the “Donà/Mantero”* case of 1976 (in which he was represented by Wilma Viscardini). In that case the Court of Justice - sharing the arguments he had put forward - ruled for the first time on the free movement of Community professional footballers, stating that the Italian legislation which prevented their hiring by Italian teams was contrary to the Treaty rules on the free movement of workers and on the freedom to provide services. This ruling of the Court of Justice was decisive for a limited opening of the borders in the "Serie A" in the 1980-81 season.
  • Dr. Gaetano Donà deserves our deepest gratitude. He leaves an unbridgeable gap, but his teachings, his flair and his humanity constitute a precious legacy that the Firm undertakes to preserve and cultivate.

Attorney GABRIELE DONÀ CONCLUDES HIS MANDATE AS PRESIDENT OF THE EUROPEAN LAWYERS' UNION

  • With the General Assembly on November, 13 (at which he presented his “President’s Report”), Attorney Gabriele Donà concluded his 2-year mandate as President of the European Lawyers’ Union (UAE).

Incontro inaugurale a Milano del "Corso di perfezionamento e specializzazione in diritto dell’Unione europea"

  • Presso l’Aula Magna del Palazzo di giustizia di Milano, ha avuto inizio la prima edizione del "Corso di perfezionamento e specializzazione in diritto dell’Unione europea”, organizzato dall’Università degli Studi di Milano, in collaborazione con l’"Unione degli Avvocati Europei" (U.A.E.)   • L’incontro aveva come il titolo “L’avvocato specialista in diritto dell’Unione europea. Le ragioni di un corso di perfezionamento per una professione in continua evoluzione”.
  • L’Avv. Gabriele Donà, nella sua qualità di Presidente dell’U.A.E., ha inaugurato il Corso assieme ad altre personalità tra cui i vertici della Magistratura milanese.
